Bananas are notorious for ripening rapidly and turning mushy and brown.

Numerous techniques exist to extend their shelf life, including wrapping banana stems with cling film or foil.

However, one food expert has revealed a distinctive storage method that guarantees your bananas remain fresh for up to 26 days.

Amy Cross, who shares content online under the handle @amycrosslegacy, demonstrated her straightforward technique to followers online.

In the clip, which has garnered over 100 likes on TikTok, she slices a banana (keeping the peel intact) into segments and places them in a glass jar within the fridge.

Astonishingly, after 26 days, the banana pieces remained fresh with vibrant yellow skins.

She explained: "These are the bananas I purchased on March 13, and I cut this into thirds and put it into a jar, so they're 26 days old."

Her objective was to determine whether she could maintain a sliced banana's freshness for 12 hours, but she dramatically surpassed that with 26 days of freshness.

"The whole goal of putting the bananas in the jar was to see if I can get a cut banana to last 12 hours, and it's been 26 days," she added.

Should you prefer not to slice your bananas, it's advisable to store them in a cool, shaded location.

Bananas ought to be maintained at roughly 12 degrees, as they'll ripen more quickly if exposed to excessive warmth.

A poorly lit room without direct sunlight proves ideal.

Therefore, a warm kitchen isn't the optimal location for your bananas.

For those wishing to store peeled bananas, the juice method is recommended. Once a banana has been sliced and exposed to air, it will brown rapidly.

However, a quick spritz of lemon juice or pineapple juice on the peeled fruit can keep it fresh for your fruit salads.
